Weaving Stories Through Pattern and ColourÂ
With threads of heritage woven through contemporary vision, I transform surface pattern design into a celebration of cultural richness and vibrant storytelling.Â
Born and raised on the West Coast of Vancouver, BC, Canada, I’ve called the UK home for the past twelve years, bringing with me a perspective shaped by both Western and Eastern influences. My Indian heritage forms the cornerstone of my creative philosophy—one that stands firmly against cultural appropriation and instead champions authentic appreciation and representation.Â
My relationship with fashion and design began in childhood, styling outfits for elementary school, sewing from the age of 10, and finding a knack for crafting as a Girl Guide. This early foundation in craft gave me an intuitive understanding of how patterns translate onto different materials and how colour can transform a space or garment.Â
In a world increasingly drawn to minimalism and muted palettes, I choose to embrace the language of colour. My designs serve as a counterpoint to the washing away of vibrancy in contemporary design, bringing embroidery-inspired details and rich hues back into everyday objects.Â
What makes my work particularly compelling is my unconventional journey. Before dedicating myself to design, I built a career spanning healthcare education and technology, serving as a product manager in the tech industry. This analytical background gives me a unique approach to creative problems—methodical yet imaginative, strategic yet spontaneous.Â
My pivot came from a deeply personal place. When close family members faced chronic illness, the fragility of time crystallized for me. “Life is too short” transformed from a casual saying into an urgent call to pursue my creative passions. This experience infuses my work with an authenticity and emotional depth that technical skill alone cannot achieve.Â
My collections range from designs that honor traditional craftsmanship from cultures around the world to abstract compositions that push boundaries while remaining respectful of their influences (and a bit of abstract print because I love experimenting!). What unites my diverse portfolio is a commitment to representing communities often overlooked in mainstream design and bringing intricate, thoughtful patterns back into our daily environments.Â
Whether translating my vision onto textiles, wallpaper, phone cases, or upholstery, each of my designs comes with a story—a narrative thread that connects the user to cultures, histories, and artistic traditions. For those who believe that what surrounds us should speak to us, my patterns offer not just decoration, but conversation.Â
Collaborating with me means more than commissioning a surface design. It’s an invitation to participate in cultural appreciation through art, to bring meaning and mindfulness into spaces through pattern, and to celebrate the vibrant diversity of our visual heritage.Â
